Whats special at the Franklin Arts Festival?
While it is a community event, the prestige and prize money attract artists not only from Franklin but all over New Zealand. With hundreds of participating artists, the quality and variety of artwork on show seems to improve with passing years.
In addition to the art on exhibit each year...
- 12 local schools are invited to create artwork on a specific theme
- Our Craft Shoppe sells an excellent collection of local and regional crafts and products
- View art demonstrations by a variety of artists & craftspeople
- Hear local musicians play during the weekends
- Purchase refreshments on site or walk one block to reach our local restaurants and cafes
How much is the entry fee?
The entry fee into the Town Hall to view and purchase Artwork is only $5 - children are free.
You are a registered charitable organisation. Where do the profits go?
If we make a profit, we do our best to support our local community and we take our role of promoting local arts seriously. In 2007 we donated $15,000 towards the building of our community library and arts centre, Franklin: The Centre, and each year we provide a $300 Scholarship for Art Excellence to each of our local public high schools - Pukekohe High School, Tuakau College and Waiuku College. Some funds are used to improve the quality of the Franklin Arts Festival, and finally, we hold money in reserve to keep us going through leaner times. Our intent is to keep the Franklin Arts Festival going for years to come.
I would like to get involved with the Franklin Arts Festival. What can I do?
You can become a Friend of the Festival for the cost of $10 per year. This support from art patrons makes a huge difference to the Franklin Arts Festival. You will receive a $5 ticket to the exhibition (this ticket cannot be used on opening night) and join our mailing list.
You can volunteer to help during the Arts Festival. We are all volunteers here and can always use your help to sell door tickets, put up or take down artwork, etc.
You can join the Festival Organising Committee and give us your ideas and support.
You (or your organisation or business) can become a
Prize Sponsor or
Advertising Sponsor. Your name will appear in our catalogue and on our large sponsor board at the exhibition. Without our sponsors, the Franklin Arts Festival could not be held each year.
