Entering Artwork Into The Arts Festival

What are the art sections for the Franklin Arts Festival exhibit and competition?

The Franklin Arts Festival is an open exhibition. Amateur or professional artists can enter the show if their work meets the Special Conditions of Entry. The Festival sections include:
  • Miniature Painting
  • Painting
  • Photography
  • Pottery
  • Textile Art
  • Woodturning
These categories are separated into further sections including youth sections - check the entry forms for more details.

I want to enter my artwork into the Franklin Arts Festival. What do I do?
  1. Our entry forms are available to download each year from this website from late May/early June. Read the Special Conditions of Entry carefully. Some restrictions do apply for each art section. Complete the form (and be sure we can read it). Then mail the form(s) and entry fee(s) to us before the cut-off date. Late entries will not be accepted.

  2. Bring your artwork to the Pukekohe Town Hall by the date specified on the entry form (or be sure your freighted artwork arrives by that date) - see the Special Conditions. Each year we do have to refuse entry of some artwork because the Special Conditions are not followed.

  3. Don’t forget to pick up your artwork on the final afternoon of the festival! A storage fee will apply for late pickup.

Why is there a storage fee for artwork not picked up on the last day?

When you enter artwork into the Franklin Arts Festival, you sign and accept our Special Conditions of Entry. One of these conditions is the pickup date of your artwork at the show’s end. Each year there are a number of artists who do not pick up (or arrange to pick up) their artwork. Packdown of the Festival must be completed by 6pm on the last day of the Festival.   Artwork which has not been picked up has to be moved by hand to a secure location until it is collected.   The late pickup and storage fee of $20 is charged to compensate for this multi-handling of your artwork. Please ensure your artwork is collected on time to avoid a storage fee.

Some prizes are Acquisitive and some are not. What does that mean?

For most awards, you can win the prize money AND you can sell the artwork. But for some of the top prizes - the top awards in Painting and in Pottery - the prize is Acquisitive. This means the sponsor who donates that prize “acquires” your artwork. So if you win that prize, the artwork automatically goes to the sponsor - it is no longer for sale. These acquisitive prizes are marked on your entry form. Most artists choose to enter artwork into the Festival which has a value less than the amount of the top prize.

I want to sell my craftwork in the ‘Craft Shoppe’. Who do I contact?

We sell crafts of quality and variety in the ‘Craft Shoppe’. Display space is limited. If you are interested in supplying crafts to the shop, send a message and your details on the Contact Us tab. Our Craft Shoppe coordinator will contact you.
